Student Affairs Office & the Suzy Lantz Travel Library

Conveniently located outside of the Student Affairs Office is an area for travel planning.

At first glimpse on how to organize your trip it may seem that there's a bewildering range of options to choose from and this can seem overwhleming. However, once you start focusing on your trip, things will become clearer. Outside of the Student Affairs Office there is a good selection of travel books and guides for your use. The Suzy Lantz Travel Library is complete with maps, updated guidebooks, brochures, and recommendations from previous travellers. These have often been donated by previous students for future use and new ones are also purchased by Student Affairs to keep the collection up-to-date. These printed materials are for reference use only and are kept in the Travel Library for everyone to enjoy.

There are also computers primarily for travel use. This area is often a busy place with students reviewing the travel books and making all their travel bookings on the computer. There are also notice boards in the travel area with tips and travel information to help in trip planning.

**Some students have even used the space to conduct their own "Trip Briefings" to the group of students with whom they planned their travels!**

Don't forget the people in Student Affairs can help you on some travel questions should you struggle with the decision to go to Paris, Prague, Brussels, Dublin, Edinburgh, or anywhere else you have been dreaming about visiting!

Word-of-Mouth

One of the best planning tools is word-of-mouth. Find out from your friends, other students, faculty, and staff where they have gone and if they have any personal recommendations.

Don't be afraid to go somewhere we don't have personal recommendations for...after all, someone has to go, and we would love to have your own feedback on new places. If you find any good places to stay, eat, visit on your travels don't keep them to yourself! Pick up a leaflet or flyer and bring it back with you for other students to benefit from.

It's a wonderful adventure finding a place on your own. Sharing your experience with others (mistakes and all!) is what independent travel is all about.

Independent Travel Seminar

The Student Affairs Office provides a seminar during the first week of classes to inform students and faculty of safe travel practices, potential pitfalls and matters of general safety and security. We strongly recommend students attend this session. We are constantly learning from students' independent travels and want to pass on their experiences to future Harlaxton students.
